Glass production in Saxony has its roots in the Middle Ages from the 13th century, when the first forest glassworks were founded in the picturesque forests and valleys of the geopark due to the abundance of raw materials such as wood and quartz sand. Parts of this tradition have been preserved and developed to this day, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.
The glass manufacturing processes are just as varied as the products themselves. From artistic glass objects and container glass to industrial glass products such as glass fibers and glass insulation materials - the glass industry in the Geopark offers a wide range of products.
